Quick-start for popular apps

Maya
FBX / OBJ
File → Import. FBX preserves materials and normals.
3ds Max

File → Import. Enable 'Import Materials' in the FBX options.

File → Merge. R23+ has native GLB support.
Houdini

Format cheat-sheet

  • GLB — best for web, Godot, model-viewer, Sketchfab. Embedded textures.
  • FBX — best for Unity, Unreal, Maya, 3ds Max. Full PBR map set.
  • OBJ — universal, geometry-only. Pair with the texture pack for materials.
  • DAE / COLLADA — Second Life, older pipelines.
